Andrea Thomson has worked as a registered psychiatric nurse in a variety of settings since 2009. Prior to becoming a nurse, Andrea worked as a mental health proctor and an educational assistant for several years. Andrea’s psychiatric nursing experience includes acute care psychiatric nursing in mental health and addictions, psychiatric emergency room nurse, and mental health nurse educator. Andrea has experience providing individual and group counselling to a wide variety of populations. Areas of expertise include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Crisis Intervention, and Suicide Assessment and Intervention. Andrea has volunteer experience providing debriefing services to employees that have experienced critical events while at work. Andrea enjoys a balanced lifestyle including gym and home fitness routines, yoga, mindfulness, reading, crochet, painting, and sewing. She is a lifelong learner and is open to trying new activities and hobbies.
